Balance Training

Balance training in the greater Indian Harbour Beach,
Satellite Beach, Indialantic, and Melbourne areas.

Balance training (vestibular rehabilitation)  is recommended when an individual does not score well on the Computerized Assessment for Postural Stability (CAPS) test. This test only takes 30 seconds to complete. The computer plots your center of pressure during the test and compares it to age and height matched norms and calculates several things:  your stability score (how stable you are or your probability of having a fall), how many millimeters you swayed, the direction of your sway, how linear your sway was (indicating possible semicircular canal involvement), how much you fatigued during the test, and how well you adapted to the test. (Vestibular rehabilitation is also recommended when an individual shows a breakdown in eye movements which are associated with balance disorders and other neurological dysfunctions.)

A great thing about the exercises is that you don’t have to dress up to go to the gym for them as they are usually performed for short periods of time (one to two minutes) two to three times per day. This frequency usually allows the brain to repair and remodel itself!
