A
Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist is an individual in the field
of chiropractic who is a specialist in evaluating the function of the
brain and nervous system. At one time, it was thought that the brain
and nervous system were hard wired and unable to change. This has since
been proven false with the discovery of “neuroplasticity” is that the
brain and nervous system are malleable, plastic, and changeable. (It is
like walking through a field of tall grass. The first time you walk
through it, you can’t look behind you and tell where you’ve been.
However, if you continue to walk on it repeatedly, you will eventually
be able to see the path.)
With an in-depth under-standing of “neuroplasticity,” a
Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist will strive to change their
patient’s neurological functioning by utilizing techniques firmly based
in neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neuroscience. Some of the
techniques used to create these changes include: cognitive exercises,
visual stimulation, auditory stimulation, warm or cool air irrigation to
the inner ear, computerized brain timing exercises, balance exercises,
eye tracking exercises, light therapy, and adjustments of the spine and
extremities. It is the correct application of these techniques that
allows hope to be offered for those who have not been able to be helped
by traditional methods.
To achieve the designation of “Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist”, an individual must:
• hold the degree of Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) from a CCE accredited college or its equivalent
• successfully complete a post doctoral program in neurology of 300 credit hours from a chiropractic
college, university, institution, foundation or agency whose program is approved by the continuing
education committee of the Commission for the Accreditation of Graduate Education in Neurology
(CAGEN)
• demonstrate competency in successfully passing a series of rigorous written and oral board examinations.
Upon
successful completion of the above three requirements, the American
Chiropractic Neurology Board (ACNB) awards the credential of DIPLOMATE
OF THE AMERICAN CHIROPRACTIC NEUROLOGY BOARD (DACNB.) The Diplomate
Program in Neurology Certification awarded by the ACNB is fully
accredited by the National Commission for Certification Agencies (NCCA)
and the accreditation body of the National Organization for Competency
Assurance (NOCA.)
The
ACNB is the only specialty certification agency for the chiropractic
profession that is fully accredited by NCCA. NCCA's standards exceed
the requirements set forth by the American Psychological Association and
the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. NOCA is the leader in
setting quality standards for credentialing organizations.
